Trail X is back open for riding and running after a lot of hard work. Several years of damaged trees have been removed to re-open the loops. Trail X has been the secret training grounds for many Chappell's Racing riders over the years. Starting back in the year 2000 Joe Chappell took 20 year old snowmobile trails and starting cleaning them up and adding smaller more techincal sections. It served mainly as a Downhill training ground for Joe the first few years.. Other fitness groups such as Physical Education classes, kids camps and day programs have used the site for off road skills. With the creation of Chappell's Racing, riders from all over Ontario have used the trail to sharpen their skills.
Trail X features 2 short loops and 1 longer loop all with switch backs, rolling hills, technical sections and "off to the side jumps/drops and bridges."
Trail X is a great spot for night riding, interval training or section work. For more information about this private trail contact Joe Chappell.

Matt Terry
With great sadness I am posting this message to let the cycling community know that Matt Terry, Saugeen Shores BMX VP has passed away. Matt has served various positions with Saugeen Shores BMX since its start in 2000. His MFM store was a downtown Port Elgin hot spot for cyclists in the late 90's. He was the 1st shop that helped me out while I was racing Downhill. It was his store along with a BMX parent Claude G. that masterminded the Saugeen BMX idea. Matt is best known for being the man on the top of the largest start hill in Ontario. Matt served as the Head Starter during local Saugeen races as well as the O-Cup Provincial starter during that series. He was always a smiling face whenever he stopped by the Chappell's Racing BMX Camps. Matt served with me when I was SSBMX President, he was a friend and early riding buddy. There will be a tribute to Matt Terry at the 1st gate drop of 2010. I will post that date when it is determined.

Camp Week 2/3
With the weather report saying rain off and on for both weeks we sure had our fingers crossed for some good weather to end the BMX camps for 2009. After a wet first few days the riders were tearing up the track once again. Campers had adapted well to activities around the track and lots of instruction under the Chappell's Racing tent. Week #2 had 10 riders all new to Chappell's Racing and BMX. Week #3 also had 10 riders but this time around over half the group were returning riders. Daily Prizes were won, Best Crash awards were given out and friendships were made. Chappell's Racing will be back for year 7 in 2010 with more riding, racing and cycling fun. Thank-you to all campers, instructors the cast and crew at SSBMX for maintaining an awesome track and of course to Martins Bicycle Shop for the great swag and Bike Build loaner. Dates for the 2010 summer season will be posted in early 2010.

BMX CAMP #1 Report
Week #1 of the Chappell's Racing BMX Cyling Camp is all wrapped up. 14 riders took part, with 3 of them being returning riders from last year. As the camp moved on two teams surfaced; World BMX (name due to Angus, from Scotland being on that team), and FFR or Flaming Fast Rockets. Special thanks to team mate Makenna for her team cheers. During the RIDERS READY day campers were treated with an active starting gate. Thanks to starter Chris Huber for taking the time to set everything up. Special thanks to Instructors Logan Chappell, and Saugeen Shores BMX's own Brett Coulson! One week of great riding is in the books. Two more to come in August.

Glammis Gallop Duathlon Less Then ONE week away
The 1st ann. Glammis Gallop Duathlon is almost here. Email me at jchapp17@hotmail for entry and directions. 4km run-20km bike-4km run. I predict the winning time will be under 1hour and 10 min. Do the complete race or parts of it. This is the beauty of a homegrown race. BBQ afterwards. All abilities welcome.
