North Carolina Training Camp
This was my first type of training camp since my days of running track and field. Myself and 9 other Arrow Racing Team athletes made the trek down to Brevard North Carolina for a week long training session. The camp featured both road training and mountain bike riding. I found the riding to be excellent for pre-season prep. With the landscape you were either going up hill or downhill. Very little recovery was given. I was impressed by how fast I recovered after each ride. Good indication on my fitness level at this time. I was happy with both the way I rode and the way my bikes handled the difficult courses. I would suggest the mountains of Carolina to any fit cyclist. I enjoyed the crazy climbs and then the wicked fast decents. Last night I ran my short running loop at intensity and improved my time by over a min. Looks like the winter training and added came are placing me where I need to be at this time. TECH tip of the month is run regular MTB tubes in your bike, not anything race/ or lite specific. I had several flats last season during my training and races, and then 3 on one ride alone during camp. Since switching to the el cheapo tubes, I haven't had a flat. You will give up a little weight, but at least you will finish the day!
